Study Parameters
Criteria for choosing test homes:
Homes were to be experiencing high basement humidity levels
No insulation installed between concrete wall and back fill soil
Distinguished heating system (oil fired / forced air) with electric hot water heater.
No recent or future home improvements / repairs that would directly affect heating cost for the duration of the project.
No heating supplements (i.e. wood stoves, electric heaters)
Two test homes of approximately the same size, which used similar construction methods, were required. One test home would used to install the basement envelope system, from footing to grade level. The other test home would be used to install the basement system from footing to top of foundation wall, protecting all foundation wall surfaces, both above and below grade level.
A third home adjacent to one test home would be chosen for participation in the study.
